Apex Legends: Marked Split 2 went live September 15, bringing one of the game's largest midseason batches of changes in recent months. The update combines gameplay balance changes with new anti-cheat technology designed to detect unauthorized controller hardware and software across PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2.
Ranked gets a new map rotation
For the new split, ranked play rotates to World's Edge, Olympus and Broken Moon. Storm Point and E-District leave the ranked pool. EA has also scheduled six ranked ladders between September 22 and November 1, giving competitive players a series of shorter leaderboard periods during the split.
The map changes are accompanied by more than 150 map-related quality-of-life fixes, according to Respawn. The developers specifically highlighted World’s Edge, where they addressed collision problems, geometry holes and unintended hiding spots.
New anti-cheat enforcement
The biggest technical headline is Respawn's expanded detection for prohibited controller hardware and software. EA says the systems were validated for several months before implementation and are designed to operate across all supported platforms. Players who trigger the detections can be actioned and banned after review.
The move follows earlier anti-cheat updates during September. Respawn has said it is continuing to strengthen detection and enforcement against different forms of cheating, with the goal of protecting competitive play at all ranks.
Balance and loot changes
Split 2 also changes the gameplay itself. EA lists Legend adjustments, additional healing loot and buffs for several long-range weapons, including the Triple Take, Bocek Compound Bow and Charge Rifle. Conduit, Fuse, Catalyst and Bloodhound received changes intended to refine their abilities and upgrades.
Loot availability has also been adjusted to reduce empty containers and make early-game item access more consistent. These changes may influence how quickly squads gear up and how aggressively teams approach the opening minutes of a match.
Account sharing enforcement
Respawn also reported a separate competitive-integrity action on September 18. The developer said it suspended 258 Predator players for 60 days after identifying account-sharing patterns involving multiple devices on PlayStation and Xbox. The associated ranked points were also removed.
That action is separate from the new controller-hardware detection but forms part of the same broader push around ranked integrity.
What this means for Apex players
Marked Split 2 is not just a balance patch. It changes the ranked environment, refreshes several Legends and weapons, modifies loot and map quality, and adds another layer to the game's anti-cheat systems.
For players returning after a break, the most noticeable differences will likely be the new ranked map pool and the updated Legend and weapon balance. Competitive players also have the upcoming ranked ladders to prepare for, starting September 22.
