Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is now available for Nintendo Switch 2, bringing a new tactical role-playing adventure to Nintendo's current-generation console. Nintendo lists September 17, 2026 as the release date, and the game is exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2.

The story is built around four heroes whose fates become connected across time: Cai, Dietrich, Theodora and Leda. Players are guided by a mysterious protagonist who travels through time to help these characters prepare for a future battle against Balor, a resurrected demon god. The central idea is simple but ambitious: change events in the past to alter what happens in the future.

At the center of the early story are the Heroic Games, a major tournament in the Dagdan Empire. Fighters from across the region enter the competition, with victory offering a powerful reward. Each of the four main heroes has a different reason for competing, giving the campaign several character-driven routes rather than one single perspective.

Combat keeps the series' tactical foundation. Battles are turn-based, with positioning, terrain, classes, weapons and enemy movement all affecting the outcome. Players can use close-range attacks, long-range weapons, magic and special Combat Arts to create different approaches to each battlefield.

One of the new combat features is the Blaze Art system. Nintendo describes Blaze Arts as special powers available to the four main heroes, but using them costs health points. That creates a risk-and-reward decision: a powerful ability can turn a difficult battle around, but spending health at the wrong moment can leave a key character exposed.

There is also plenty to do between major battles. Players can explore Dagsion and the surrounding areas, train their units, recruit allies, build relationships and complete activities that improve their forces. Nintendo also highlights a world map where players can travel, complete quests and fight roaming enemies for experience and resources.

Dungeons add another layer to the adventure. These areas can contain treasures and materials as well as enemies that trigger Clash battles. The mix of overworld exploration, preparation and tactical encounters means the game is not limited to a sequence of battlefield maps.

The time-travel premise gives the campaign its larger structure. Instead of simply following the heroes toward a single predetermined outcome, the player works to change their earlier circumstances so that they can eventually face the future threat. Nintendo presents the four stories as interwoven journeys that build toward a shared fight for the fate of the world.

From a technical standpoint, Nintendo's official store listing estimates the game at 29.5 GB. It supports TV, tabletop and handheld play on Nintendo Switch 2 and is designed for a single player on one system.

Fortune's Weave also arrives during a busy September for Nintendo. The company has been expanding the Switch 2 lineup with new releases and updates, and its September Nintendo Direct highlighted additional games for the platform. That puts the new Fire Emblem entry inside a broader wave of 2026 software for the console.

For strategy-RPG fans, the defining combination here is the blend of classic grid-based tactics with a larger world map, character-focused routes and time-travel storytelling. The result is a Fire Emblem adventure built around both preparation and battlefield decision-making, with the four heroes serving as the backbone of the campaign.

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is available now on Nintendo Switch 2. The game combines the series' tactical battles with exploration, recruitment, relationship-building and a story centered on changing the past to save the future.
