Final Fantasy VII Revelation Hands-On: Vincent, Cid and April 2027

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is shaping up as the final chapter in Square Enix’s remake trilogy, and PlayStation has now shared a hands-on look at its combat and story systems. The game is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 on April 8, 2027, following Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

At Tokyo Game Show 2026, players were able to try a combat-focused demo featuring Vincent and Cid as playable characters. The demo took place in the Whirlwind Maze and included a battle against Jenova Deathmourner. The presentation also introduced the new FITS System, giving fans another look at how the final game is expanding the remake formula.

Vincent and Cid are important additions because both characters have a long history in Final Fantasy VII. Bringing them into the playable roster changes the way combat teams can be built and gives the final chapter additional character variety.

The remake project has already taken a different approach from a conventional remaster. Final Fantasy VII Remake reimagined Midgar and rebuilt its combat system around real-time action mixed with commands, while Final Fantasy VII Rebirth expanded the world beyond the original city setting. Revelation now has to bring together the story threads and characters developed across those games.

The Whirlwind Maze demonstration provides a glimpse of the scale of the final chapter. It places the characters inside a recognizable part of Final Fantasy VII’s wider mythology while using the modern remake engine and combat structure.

The addition of the FITS System is another important detail. New systems can change how players approach party building, equipment and battles, especially in the later stages of a trilogy where developers have a larger toolbox of mechanics available.

Combat remains one of the defining elements of the remake series. Players can switch between party members, use abilities and manage resources while responding to enemy attacks in real time. New playable characters such as Vincent and Cid can introduce different attack patterns and tactical options, giving experienced players reasons to rethink familiar strategies.

The April 8, 2027 release date also gives Square Enix time to continue polishing the project. Final Fantasy VII is one of the company’s most recognizable franchises, and the conclusion of the remake trilogy carries a large amount of narrative expectation.

For returning players, the final chapter will need to address characters, locations and story threads established in the first two games. For new players, the trilogy presents a much larger commitment because the story is being designed across multiple full-sized releases.

The Tokyo Game Show hands-on session is especially useful because it moves the conversation beyond trailers. Actual playable demos reveal how mechanics feel and how new characters function within battles. Vincent and Cid appearing together demonstrates that the roster has continued to grow rather than simply repeating the same combat framework.

The game’s PS5 focus also allows the developers to target modern hardware for detailed environments, effects and large-scale battles. The remake project has consistently used cinematic presentation alongside real-time action, and Revelation appears to continue that approach.

The final chapter still has several months of development before April 2027. More information about the full story, locations, characters and systems is expected as the launch approaches.

For now, Final Fantasy VII Revelation represents the next major step in the remake project: a PS5-exclusive finale featuring new playable characters, a new FITS System, and a storyline that continues from Remake and Rebirth.
