SSS-Class Revival Hunter Anime Coming in January 2027: What We Know So Far

The popular Korean webcomic SSS-Class Revival Hunter is officially being adapted into an anime series, with a January 2027 premiere planned and Crunchyroll confirmed as a streaming partner across a large range of territories, including the Indian subcontinent. The announcement gives fans of the original webcomic a first look at how the story will move from digital panels into television animation.

The adaptation is being directed by Hiroaki Sakurai at STUDIO fu, with Sayuri Oba handling series composition and Takahiro Yoshimatsu designing the characters. The main cast announced so far includes Takeo Otsuka as Kim Gongja and Satoshi Hino as the Sword Emperor. That combination brings established anime talent to a property built around dungeon, tower and time-based fantasy concepts.

SSS-Class Revival Hunter follows Kim Gongja, a low-ranked hunter who begins the story as an overlooked figure. The world contains a mysterious tower filled with monsters, treasure and dangerous challenges, attracting hunters who are willing to risk their lives for status and rewards. Gongja initially envies the strongest hunters, particularly the powerful Flame Emperor.

His situation changes when he gains an unusual S-rank ability after an encounter involving the Sword Emperor. The ability comes with a severe condition: Gongja must die to activate it, creating a story structure where death itself becomes part of his strategy rather than simply the end of an adventure.

That premise gives the series a distinctive place within the modern action-fantasy and dungeon genre. Many tower and hunter stories focus on rapid power progression, new skills and increasingly difficult battles. SSS-Class Revival Hunter adds a psychological and strategic element because Gongja’s ability forces him to think about consequences, repetition and how information from previous experiences can change future decisions.

Crunchyroll’s distribution announcement is especially relevant for Indian anime viewers. The company listed the Indian subcontinent among the territories where it plans to stream the series, alongside North and South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East and parts of Asia. Exact language, subtitle and dub availability can still vary by market.

The original webcomic debuted in December 2020 and had reached 151 published chapters by the time of the 2026 anime announcement, according to Crunchyroll. The adaptation therefore has a substantial amount of source material available, although the final television pacing and the amount of story covered in the first season will determine how much of the larger narrative viewers see.

The January 2027 release also puts SSS-Class Revival Hunter into a busy anime calendar. Winter seasons frequently bring major returning franchises alongside new adaptations, so the series will enter the market with an established webcomic audience and a concept that is familiar enough to understand quickly while still offering a different approach to the hunter formula.

For longtime readers, the biggest question will be how the anime handles the emotional weight of Gongja’s repeated deaths and the consequences of his decisions. For new viewers, the central hook is simpler: a weak hunter gains an extraordinary ability, but unlocking that power requires him to die.

The anime’s production staff and early promotional material suggest that STUDIO fu is building the adaptation around both action and character-driven fantasy. With Crunchyroll attached to the international release, the series is also positioned to reach a global audience close to its Japanese launch.

January 2027 will reveal how successfully the anime translates the webcomic’s combination of power progression, strategy, tragedy and dark fantasy into animation.
