Control Resonant Launches September 24: Story, Combat and What to Expect

CONTROL Resonant is approaching its September 24, 2026 worldwide launch, bringing Remedy Entertainment's next chapter in the Control universe to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The sequel shifts the central perspective toward Dylan Faden, brother of the original game's protagonist Jesse Faden.

Remedy has described the game as an expanded action-adventure RPG set in a reality-bending version of Manhattan. Dylan is dealing with a growing supernatural crisis while his sister Jesse is missing. A new form of resonance is spreading alongside familiar threats such as the Hiss and the Mold.

A different lead character

The move from Jesse to Dylan changes the story's viewpoint without abandoning the mythology established in the first game. Dylan was already an important part of Control's lore, so putting him in the center gives Remedy a way to explore a familiar character from a new angle.

The setup also provides a natural reason to expand beyond the original game's environment. Instead of keeping players inside a single shifting headquarters, Resonant moves into a larger urban space. Manhattan becomes part of the supernatural mystery, with reality itself treated as something unstable.

How the gameplay is evolving

Combat remains a major part of the experience, but Remedy has been emphasizing new ways to fight rather than simply repeating the original game's formula. Dylan uses a transforming weapon called the Aberrant, adding a stronger close-quarters component to his toolkit.

That creates a potentially different rhythm from the first Control. Players still deal with supernatural enemies and reality-bending environments, but the sequel is designed around a character who can mix movement, weapon transformations and strange powers during encounters.

Platforms and release

Remedy says CONTROL Resonant will release worldwide on September 24 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. The game will also support GeForce NOW at launch, while a Mac version is planned to follow later in 2026.

The release arrives during a busy September in gaming, with several major games launching across console and PC. For Remedy, that means Resonant enters a crowded market while also serving a built-in audience familiar with the first Control.

What returning players should watch

The most interesting part of the sequel is the combination of a known universe and a new scale. The first Control built much of its identity around a strange government building where architecture, objects and physics could change. Resonant takes those reality-warping ideas into a city environment, giving Remedy more room to play with the contrast between ordinary locations and supernatural disruption.

The story also puts Dylan in a difficult position: he is not simply investigating an anomaly but trying to survive one while searching for answers about Jesse and the forces reshaping Manhattan.

CONTROL Resonant launches September 24, 2026. For players who liked the original's blend of action, mystery and surreal world-building, the sequel represents an expansion of that formula rather than a simple repeat.
